All proceeds will go to support the 6th Annual Iranian Festival. This is an all ages event.

After playing together for several minutes- Hadi on Tar (a Persian fretted string instrument) and Ahmad on Tonbak (a carved goblet drum) – they realized their approach to music was very similar. Their musical storytelling is completely improvised, engaging and conversational; it depends on the moment and no two performances are identical. Their first improvised performance at the 2011 Northwest Folklife Festival received a standing ovation.

Performing for the first time in Seattle in support of the Seattle Iranian Festival 2011, Iranian born vocalist, Shahrzad, has established herself as a visionary Persian female singer possessing a tender vocal style and a range of emotions expressed in her songs about her homeland and its struggle for freedom as well as songs about love and hope.
Shahrzad’s unique music and velvety voice will appeal to modern listeners looking for an international beat and sound that remains faithful to Persian melodies and rhythms. Her collaboration with established Jazz musician and producer, Farzin Farhadi, has produced songs that easily crossover between cultures by combining the freedom of expression in Jazz , with the deep emotional lyrics and melodies of Persian music.
Shahrzad will be accompanied by first rate musicians including Farzin Farhadi (Band Leader, Saxophone) Dimitris Jimmy Mahlis (Guitar), Kasra Saboktakin (Bass), Dennis Hamm (Keyboard) & Simon Carroll (Drums).

The 2011 Iranian Festival is participating in Seattle Center’s Festál Fabric of America Project: E=mc2 (Engaging through Media to spread Culture at the speed of light). This participatory art and social media project creates a forum for people to define and present their cultures, and connect to others.

Many Iranian Americans are constantly engaged in a balancing act between their Iranian roots and the realities of their lives in the United States. Bringing together various traditions, values, and histories through digital media and arts is an essential step in re-creating the intersectionality and multiplicity of our identities and experiences as Iranian Americans.
